Canadian Boychuk Takes Home Rockabilly Rod Reunion Crown

Canadian Boychuk Takes Home Rockabilly Rod Reunion Crown

Canadian Tim Boychuk in the "Troy Lee Designs" Firebird stunned the class seemingly out of nowhere last weekend to claim the Rockabilly Rod Reunion at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last weekend.

Boychuk qualified third with a 5.884 @ 243.33 on Saturday but totally dominated the nostalgia funny car field on Sunday collecting low elapsed time, top mile per hour of the event along the way to winning the Rockabilly Rod Reunion crown.

Boychuk defeated Steve Macklyn in the "Nitro Thunder" Firebird owned by Jack Harris with a 5.886 @ 236.25 to Macklyn's 5.998 @ 246.26.

The Rockabilly Rod Reunion hosted the largest gathering of nitro funny cars ever assembled with the exception of the March Meet earlier this year when 25 fire breathing nitro funny cars battled for the 8 car elimination field to be contested on Sunday.

Round 1 Eliminations

Steve Macklyn in the "Nitro Thunder" Firebird easily defeated Roger Garten in the "War Horse" Mustang with a 5.915 @ 246.26 when Garten shook and pedaled to no avail and coasted through the quartermile with a 11.302 @ 71.00 mph.

Tim Boychuk in the "Troy Lee Designs" Firebird squashed Mark Sanders hopes of 3 wins in a row when he defeated Sanders in the "Mr. Explosive" Nova with a 5.774 @ 247.20 after Sanders was shut off with a fuel leak after his burnout. Boychuk also set low elapsed time and top mile per hour of the event on this pass.

Steve Rajcic in the "LA Hooker" Arrow narrowly defeated Steven Densham in the "Teachers Pet" Camaro with a 5.916 @ 236.13 to Densham's 5.949 @ 232.30. Densham was in as an alternate for Dennis La Charite and his "Back In Black" GTO after La Charite was unable to make the call for eliminations.

Todd Lesenko in the "Jolly Rogers" Camaro pulled off the upset of the day when he defeated Leah Pruett-LeDuc in the "Plueger & Gyger" Mustang with a 6.169 @ 236.46 after Pruett-LeDuc smoked the tires at the hit and coasted through the quartermile with a 9.258 @ 104.27.

Round 2

In another nail biter Steve Macklyn in the "Nitro Thunder" Firebird narrowly defeated Todd Lesenko in the "Jolly Rogers" Camaro with a 6.084 @ 224.96 to Lesenko"s 6.101 @ 236.42.

Tim Boychuk in the "Troy Lee Designs" Firebird defeated Steve Rajcic in the "LA Hooker" Arrow with a 5.874 @ 240.38 when the throttle cable on Rajcic's flopper broke leaving him to idle down the track.
