Canadian National Open July 25th Mission Raceway Park, Canada

Twig Zeigler got his licensing process under way today during the test and tune for the Canadian National Open.

The Nitro Funny Car Assoc. are heading up a great line up of racing series this weekend. On hand today were five cars of the ten pre entries, those Terry Capp, Twig Zeigler, Kris Kabrill, Andy Beauchemin, and Mark Sanders. Only three of the five managed to take to the track.

First out was Andy Beauchemin in the mighty black 'Tachman' Mustang owned by Tim Stevenson. He began with a strong burnout, but during his back up the car got into a real nasty wiggle and the end result was some bent front suspension and the wounded beast had to be towed out of action for the day. Not an ideal way to start, what is likely to be, the second last race for this season for those guys.

Next out was the outstanding Bubble Up Trans Am of Terry Capp and Ron Hudgson, being tuned as usual by the iconic Roland Leong who will be out with his own 'Hawaiian Tropic' Dodge by the end of the season. Terry laid down a strong burnout, Roland signaled him into stage and on the green, the great sea level air of Mission filled the engine and poured too much power down for the big slicks to hold and he went up in smoke at the hit.
Last of today's runners was the return of Twig Zeigler to the black top. With his new set up and team still working the bugs out, Twig and his team were under the watchful eye of Roland Leong and the Bubble up team who offered up instruction and advice on all aspects of fielding the funny car from warm up to start line routines. He had hoped to get all his licensing runs in today but computer issues had plagued his progress and it wasn't until the end of the day he managed to get his first run in the brand new 'Pizza Haven' Plymouth. This would be a planned early shut off as part of the licensing process, none the less, the bright orange beauty burned the hides in fine fashion and Twig did a good launch to about 600ft. A great start to the weekend.

Tomorrow should see more cars, more runs, and if we're lucky a few header flames as they run into the evening.
